COACH'S QUOTE
"Tough way to see the season the end but UNH was the better team tonight, unfortunately," Head CoachÂ
Jim Plumer said. "We had trouble generating quality offense and despite a heroic effort by
Jessie McPherson, we couldn't get on the board."
Â
"I'm proud of this group for battling through so much adversity this season and putting ourselves in a position to succeed in meaningful games down the stretch," continued Plumer. "The group that is graduating left their mark on this program and I am grateful for them as players and people. I am confident the we will have a productive offseason and be ready for the start of next season."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a scoreless opening frame Jessie McPherson continued her strong play of late for the Catamounts making 10 saves, including two while UVM was shorthanded and facing a four-on-three UNH attack.
- The Wildcats opened the scoring 7:22 into the second period off a double deflection in front. UNH's Rae Breton fired a slap shot from the point and it deflected off a Vermont forward in front of the net and then Chavonne Truter got a stick on it redirecting through the legs of McPherson for her ninth goal of the season.
- UNH doubled its advantage 2:54 into the final frame. On the fore check Tamara Thierus appeared to get her stick into the hands of a Vermont defender behind the net and in the process knocked the puck free. From the side of the net Thierus quickly fired it towards the crease and it found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the year.
- Annie Berry put the game out of reach with an empty-net tally with 2:47 left to seal the Wildcats first semifinal berth since 2020.
