Charlie Pope led all scorers with five goals, and four other Catamounts had four points as Vermont (2-4) defeated No. 20 UMass (4-2) on Saturday afternoon.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- UMass opened the scoring on a quick two-goal run, with Shane O'Leary and Caelin Lewis scoring within a minute of each other just three minutes in.Â
- Lewis added a second five minutes later to make it 3-0.Â
- Harrison Josloff got his first season when he scored off the assist from Luke Reiter with 12 seconds to go in the first quarter.Â
- Pope cut the lead down to 3-2 when he scored unassisted 34 seconds into the second quarter.
- Matthew Gargiulo extended the Gorilla's lead back to two as he got on the scoresheet a minute after Pope.Â
- Pope scored his second of the game a little more than four minutes into the second quarter, off the assist from Reiter.Â
- Carson Boyle tied the game at four all when he scored off an assist from Josloff halfway through the second quarter.Â
- Mike Tobin and Lewis combined to give UMass a two-goal lead going into the half. Tobin scored with six minutes to go, while Lewis completed his hattrick with ten seconds to go in the half.Â
- Tobin extended the lead to three after the half when he scored three minutes into the third quarter.Â
- Pope completed his hattrick when he scored off an assist from Brock Haley a minute later.Â
- Matt Knote restored the three-goal lead when the goalie scored off a full-field shot.Â
- Cullen Decker took the Catamounts on a two-goal run of their own. He scored twice within 40 seconds to make the deficit one. Josloff picked up his second assist on Decker's first goal.Â
- Tobin completed his hattrick a minute later to keep UMass up two.Â
- Max Frattaroli got Vermont's first man-up goal of the afternoon to make the deficit one off an assist from Reiter.Â
- Reiter got on the score sheet to tie the game at nine with an assist from Haley.Â
- Pope's fourth goal of the game gave the Catamounts their first lead when he scored off the assist from Decker.Â
- Pope picked up his fifth goal two minutes later off another assist from Haley to give Vermont a two-goal advantage.Â
- Connor Foley cut the Catamount's lead to one when he scored 40 seconds later.Â
- Haley and Boyle then scored twice within a minute of each other to give Vermont a three-goal advantage.Â
- Grant Beyo cut the deficit to two with a man-up goal and three minutes to go in the game.Â
- O'Leary got his second of the game with under two minutes to go to cut the deficit to one.Â

- The victory marks Vermont's first-ever win against UMass in program history and its second-ever win against a ranked non-conference opponent.Â
