COACH'S QOTE
"Obviously we know what the scoreboard says but we also know we played right with BU for 60 minutes," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "This is another example of a one-goal game that just didn't go our way. I continue to believe this team can win any game on our schedule from here on out and I know the players in our locker room believe that as well. We will be ready for tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1:01 after the opening puck drop, Maeve Kelly fed Lilli Welcke who proceeded to go coast-to-coast, taking the first shot of the game with her backhand, finding the back of the net to give Boston University the early 1-0 lead. Vermont produced intense forechecking for the remainder of the first frame, outshooting the Terriers 9-4 in the remaining 19 minutes.
- Boston University doubled its lead 13:17 into the second period when Tamara Giaquinto and Luisa Welcke broke free during a Vermont powerplay, scoring on their two-on-one attempt to give them a two-goal cushion.
- With 3:12 showing on the clock in the middle frame, a sturdy effort from Vermont to get the puck out of the zone resulted in Kaylee Lewis finding herself all alone in the neautral zone heading into the Terriers zone with a defender quickly backchecking, electing to pin her shot to the far-left side, but BU's Callie Shanahan was there to make the save, maintaining BU's 2-0 lead.
- The final period was quickly winding down before Grace Nelles scored her fourth goal of the season with 3:40 on the clock, corralling a loose puck off the stick of Rose-Marie Brochu, slapping her shot bar down glove side high, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1. Lara Beecher was awarded the secondary assist on the goal.
- A charging penalty on Vermont with just 54 seconds remaining on the clock sealed the deal as BU would maintain puck possession for the majority of the final seconds, skating away with the 2-1 road victory.
