COACH'S QUOTE
"First, I want to thank the 2,212 fans who came out to tonight's game to see an excellent, hard fought hockey game," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "It's amazing to feel the energy that they bring. Another one-goal loss for us doesn't make our record any better but I continue to be proud of how this team plays and competes. We will continue pushing forward."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UConn's leading goal scorer Claire Murdoch got scoring started 4:09 into the first period, securing her 11th goal of the season when she was left all alone in front of the net, patiently out waiting Jane Gervais until she was completely out of position and tucking her shot blocker side high to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
- 9:54 into the second period, Vermont saw its best opportunity yet when a mishandled puck by UConn's goalie Megan Warrener led to Lara Beecher having a prime opportunity to shoot the puck on net with Warrener completely out of her crease, but the shot by Beecher went wide, cutting the Huskies a break as they maintained the 1-0 advantage.
- No goals were scored for the remainder of the middle frame as the Catamounts and Huskies entered the final period with a 1-0 score in favor of UConn.
- Vermont was able to get off six shots on net throughout the third period, but Warrener stood tall, stopping every shot sent her way as the Huskies earned the 1-0 shutout victory from Gutterson Fieldhouse.
