BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior Maddy Weaver recorded her first collegiate goal Sunday afternoon as Vermont (7-6, 1-1 AE) fell to Fairfield (9-4, 5-0 NEC) in a non-conference match on Moulton Winder Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Vermont controlled the game in the first quarter, tallying five corners. The Catamounts' best chance came in the 10th minute when junior Alicia Battistelli and senior Sophia Lefranc combined for four shots on goal off a short corner, all denied by Fairfield graduate student goalkeeper Payton Rahn.

Fairfield got on the board in the 17th minute when First-year Kaelyn Fogelson knocked the ball off a bounce to sophomore Camille Perlov, who batted the ball into the back of the net.

The Catamounts responded in the 27th minute when Weaver positioned herself to the right of Rahn after a short corner insertion and redirected a pass from Lefranc into the back of the net.

After a slow third quarter with no shots on goal for either team, Fairfield took the lead in the 47th minute when Perlov scored her second goal of the game off an assist from First-year Alyse Wanchisen.

The Catamounts' best chance to equalize came in the 58th minute when First-year Veerle Nijhuis fired a sizzling shot on goal off a short corner insertion from Weaver, but Fairfield's Rahn denied it.

In the 59th minute, Battistelli sent a pass from 25 yards out to the far post, where First-year Isi McMahon put a shot on goal that Rahn saved.
