COACH'S QUOTE
"This was a great conference matchup today and a good challenge for us," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "The team did well to earn three points and a shutout on the road and thought we showed a lot of maturity to work through some big moments today. A lot of the game was played in the midfield with not a ton of clear-cut chances for either side. Maddie and Lauren capitalized on their moment, and Kylee and the backs came up big on the other end.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 7th minute, the Black Bears sent a high cross into the box, but Kylee Carafoli grabbed it before any header attempt.
- Aubrey Bough, in the 19th minute, ripped a shot from the edge of the box. However, the Maine goalkeeper made the save.
- Two minutes after Bough's attempt, Lauren DeGroot found a good look inside the box. The goalkeeper tipped her shot and then saved the follow-up attempt.
- The score remained tied 0-0 at the half. Vermont led Maine in shots on goal four to two.
- In the 51st minute, Madeline Gardner received a pass from Lauren DeGroot and ripped a powerful shot going top right from beyond the box that sneaked past the Maine goalkeeper, giving Vermont a 1-0 lead.
- Nine minutes later, Maine would put the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was called back due to the Maine attacker being offside.
- Minutes later, Maine had another look inside the box, put the shot, which was hit off the right post, and Vermont successfully cleared the ball from danger.
- With six minutes left, Maine fired a shot from outside the box. Kylee Carafoli responded with a diving save to her left.
