BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont (6-5, 1-0 AE) fell to Providence (7-4, 0-1 Big East) in overtime Sunday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field.

"Credit to Providence for finding a way to win in OT today," said head coach Kate Pfeifer. "We were inconsistent with possession, made too many unforced errors, and it hurt us. Overall we can learn a lot from this weekend and look forward to another conference match-up on Friday."
HOW IT HAPPENED

In the 3rd minute, Providence's junior Bo Martina scored off a short corner inserted by Florencia Talarico and set up by Macie Pennisi. Martina's shot deflected off a Vermont player into the top of the net.Â

In the 13th minute, Vermont's First-year Veerle Nijhuis had two strong chances off a short corner. One was a blistering forehand shot, and another was a backhand shot that was denied by Providence First-year goalkeeper Ava Porter.Â

There were no goals scored in the second quarter. The Catamounts' best chance came when Nijhuis fired a shot from the top of the striking circle that was denied by Porter.Â

Vermont tied the game in the 40th minute when junior Klara Mikulaskova's shot was deflected by senior Sophia Lefranc for the goal.Â

Vermont's defense remained strong in the 59th minute as sophomore Merle Vaandrager made several saves on Providence's short corners, with the defense blocking additional shots.Â

In the 64th minute, Providence's First-year Carly van Benten scored her fourth goal of the season to seal the win for the Friars.Â
