COACH'S QUOTE
"Really complete win today and I am really proud of the entire group," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "We were especially sharp defensively and that was a major focus after last night's game. It was great to get the first goal early and establish our offense and then our special teams did their job as well. Hats off to Zoe Cliché for her first career shutout and now we turn our attention to a very strong UConn team next weekend."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It only took Vermont 1:48 into the opening period to pounce on the scoreboard when a strong forecheck from Stella Retrum allowed her to steal the puck in the corner, finding an open Kaylee Lewis in the slot who wasted no time whipping a shot to the top right corner, scoring her fourth goal of the season, earning the Catamounts a 1-0 lead.
- New Hampshire's Nina Rossi broke free on a breakaway with 14:07 on the clock in the first period, trying to fool Cliché and find the five-hole, but Cliché held her ground, making the massive breakaway save to maintain the Catamount lead, 1-0.
- The Catamounts made it 2-0 early in the second period while being on a 5-on-3 powerplay, scoring 1:58 in, seeing Natalie Zarecone feed Rose-Marie Brochu in the slot who elected to rifle a shot on net. Sedona Blair made the initial save, but Julia Mesplède was there to bury the rebound into a wide-open net, notching her second goal of the season to give UVM the two-goal advantage.
- Morgann Skoda made it 3-0 in favor of Vermont 3:58 into the final period, receiving a pass from Maisey Bojarski along the boards, maneuvering her way through traffic to the slot where she was able to get a backhand attempt by Blair, scoring her third goal of the weekend series, fifth of the season, earning Vermont the three-goal cushion.
- An empty net goal from Retrum sealed the deal, making it 4-0 in favor of the Catamounts as Vermont skated away with the shutout victory on home ice from Gutterson Fieldhouse. Ashley Kokavec and Lewis were awarded assists on Vermont's final goal.
