COACH'S QUOTE
"Today was another game where unfortunately we had one bad period that cost us the game," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "Proud of our resilience and fight in the third period but the goal going forward is to play a complete 60-minute game every opportunity we get."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UConn picked up where they left off from the first game of the weekend series, scoring two goals in the opening half of the first period. Livvy Dewar notched the Huskies first tally before Maya Serdachny made it 2-0, finding the back of the net on the powerplay.
- The Catamounts almost pounced back with 6:31 on the clock in the first frame when an aggressive forecheck by Retrum allowed her to strip the puck from a UConn defender near the Huskie blue line, resulting in a breakaway opportunity. Retrum elected to quickly snap a shot to the glove side, but her shot rang off the post as Tina Chan was able to recover and ice the puck.
- Retrum got redemption under two minutes later on the powerplay, scoring the Catamounts first goal with 4:42 on the clock. Ashley Kokavec ripped an initial shot on net from the point, seeing the puck get tipped by Skoda right to Retrum, who wasted no time slapping in her fifth goal of the season, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1.
- The Huskies came out on fire in the second period, scoring four goals including one short-handed goal to lift them to a five-goal advantage. UConn entered the final frame with a 6-1 lead.
- Vermont struck quickly to begin the third period, seeing Lloyd-howe rip a shot five-hole from the slot, beating Chan 1:28 into the final frame to make the score 6-2, still in favor of UConn. Lloyd-Howe secured her second goal of the season.
- The Catamounts didn't back down, delivering another power-play goal with 12:11 on the clock. Skoda buried the rebound off a shot from Kokavec, securing her sixth goal of the season and Vermont's second power=play goal of the game.
- UConn tamed any last Catamount push for the remainder of regulation as the Huskies skated away with the 6-3 win and weekend sweep from Toscano Family Ice Forum.
