COACH'S QUOTE

"I felt like early we started with being the aggressor, being assertive, and executing a game plan, and then we took our foot off the gas," said Mayer Women's Basketball Head Coach Alisa Kresge.  "Bucknell thrived off of that, and they made their runs, their pushes, and they were being aggressive, and they set the pace. And so we readdressed it, and a little bit of allowing them to own that moment. We need our players to run this team. Some of our players spoke up about what we know we are capable of doing and what we were doing."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Vermont opened the game with a 13–5 lead at the first media timeout with 3:05 left in the first quarter, highlighted by a long two from senior Keira Hanson off a pass from Weltz.

  • Senior Catherine Gilwee hit a turnaround jumper with 1:40 remaining to send the Catamounts into the second quarter up 17–8.

  • Bucknell responded with an 8–2 run before the media timeout at the 4:23 mark of the second quarter.

  • Hanson ended Vermont's drought with a short jumper at 2:46 to make it 21–18.

  • Sophomore Piper Risdon buried a three with 22 seconds left in the first half, giving Vermont a 24–20 lead at the break.

  • Three early turnovers in the third quarter led to a 9–2 Bucknell run as the Bison took a 29–26 lead at the 4:49 timeout.

  • Vermont closed the quarter with baskets from sophomore Savanna Creal, which was set up by sophomore Emma Haan, and a buzzer-beating putback by junior Malia Lenz, taking a 36–32 lead into the fourth.

  • Senior Jadyn Weltz knocked down a left-wing three to push the lead to 10, prompting a Bucknell timeout at 7:37 in the fourth.

  • Weltz scored again on a driving layup at 5:37, and after a scoring lull, Creal spun past a defender for a left-handed finish at 3:57.

  • First-year Lia Hanson hit a three with 32 seconds left, and Bucknell's sophomore Isabella Casey added a free throw as Vermont closed out a 64–48 win.
