COACH'S QUOTE
"That was a gutsy road effort from our guys both nights," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "I was proud of our response and resiliency. It was impressive. Scored in all different ways. A couple big stops by
Aiden Wright. But the biggest thing to me was the way our team came together all weekend. Focused on the process of winning and not just the result. Picked each other up after mistakes. Confidence to make plays under pressure. Great team win."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont opened the scoring 4:19 into the first period with a seeing eye shot from the point by Jax Wismer. From behind the net Sebastian Törnqvist passed out to the point and Wismer found the top corner through traffic on a shot that BU's Mikhail Yegorov never saw. Richards picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
- Cole Eiserman equalized for the Terriers with 8:29 to play in the opening frame. In transition Eiserman took a feed as he cut into the Vermont zone and beat UVM's Aiden Wright with labeled snap shot inside the far post. Eiserman's eighth of the season was assisted by Gavin McCarthy and Cole Hutson.
- Vermont took the lead with 5:14 to play in the second period on a precision passing play in transition. David Sacco dished to Jens Richards and then sped into the Vermont zone. Richards bypassed a BU defender with a pass back to Sacco and then he fed a cross-ice pass on a tee for Massimo Lombardi. Lombardi one-timed a bomb bar down for his second goal of the season.
- The Catamounts defense was stellar to open the third, holding the Terriers without a shot for the first 5:20 of action.
- Boston University tied the contest with 9:53 to play in regulation. Nick Roukounakis drove wide on a UVM defender and his stuff attempt on Wright was stopped. But Roukounakis got his own rebound and pushed it home for his third goal of the season.
- In the final minute of play Blake Steenerson won a puck battle in the corner and got the puck out to Philip Törnqvist at the point. Törnqvist got a shot off from the point that Yegorov stopped. Sinclair dove for the rebound and put it in around Yegorov to make it 3-2.
