ORONO, MAINE – A strong first half and tough fourth-quarter defense made the difference as Maine (12-10, 7-2 AE) snapped Vermont's (12-11, 7-2 AE) seven-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Catamounts opened the game on a 9-5 run through baskets from Catherine Gilwee, Anna Olson, Bella Vito, and Nikola Priede.
The Black Bears closed the quarter on an 8-0 run, holding Vermont without a basket for four minutes.
The two teams traded baskets to open the second quarter, with the Catamounts holding a slight 8-7 edge. Priede had four, while Vito and Olson each had two.
Following the second media timeout, Maine finished the half on a 6-5 run, with Gilwee scoring all five points for Vermont.
The Catamounts opened the second half on an 8-4 run, with Vito, Priede, Gilwee, and Malia Lenz all scoring.
The Black Bears ended the third quarter on a 7-6 run, with Gilwee, Vito, and Olson scoring.
Maine opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, which forced Vermont into a timeout with 5:55 to go.
Following the timeout, Priede scored three straight points to cut the deficit to four. Caroline Bornemann hit two free throws with 15 seconds to ice the game.

Gilwee led all scorers with 12 points, while Priede was second with 11. Vito was third on the Catamounts in scoring with eight.
Olson had her first double-digit rebounding game of the year with 11. Sarah Ericson and Priede were tied for second with six. Vito was third with five.
Priede led Vermont in sharing the ball with a career-high four assists. Vito and Gilwee were the other Catamounts with multiple assists, as both had two.
