Catamounts Defeat UMass Lowell in Final Regular Season Road Game

LOWELL, Mass. – Keira Hanson matched her season high of 19 points to help Vermont (16-12, 11-3 AE) defeat UMass Lowell (3-23, 1-13 AE) on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams struggled to get going offensively to begin the game. The River Hawks took a 3-2 lead into the first media timeout, with Anna Olson scoring the Catamount's lone bucket. It took both teams over four minutes before their first field goal.
  • UMass Lowell held Vermont without a field goal to end the first quarter. The Catamount's lone point came from a free throw by Malia Lenz.
  • The River Hawks opened the second quarter, scoring four straight in a minute. Vermont responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead for the first time. Lenz had four points, while Keira Hanson had three.
  • Following the second media timeout, the Catamounts closed the half on a 15-4 run with Hanson scoring nine, Olson had four, and Nikola Priede had two.
  • Vermont started the second half outscoring UMass Lowell 6-3. The Catamounts received buckets from Hanson, Priede, and Catherine Gilwee.
  • After the third media timeout, Vermont closed the quarter on an 11-3 run with five points from Priede, four from Bella Vito, and two from Hanson.
  • The River Hawks opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 stretch before the final media timeout. Sarah Ericson had the lone bucket.
  • The Catamounts closed the game on a 13-7 run with five points from Gilwee, three from Hanson and Emma Haan, and two from Ericson.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hanson led all scorers with 19 points and matched her career-high seven field goals. Priede was second with nine, and Gilwee was third with seven.
  • Lenz led Vermont on the boards with six rebounds. Ericson and Priede were second and third with five and four each.
  • Vito was the Catamount's top assister with three assists, and Priede and Gilwee were tied for second with two each. Three other Vermont players recorded an assist.
  • The Catamounts had a season-high 12 steals, with Vito leading the way with three. Gilwee, Ericson, and Hanson were the other Vermont players to record multiple assists.
  • UMass Lowell had 26 turnovers, which is tied for the most a team has had against Vermont this season.
  • With the win, the Catamounts have clinched a top-two seed in the playoffs.
