ORONO, MAINE – Vermont (14-5, 3-1 AE) secured its third conference win of the season against Maine (8-10, 3-2 AE) on Thursday night at Memorial Gym. Keira Hanson led the Catamounts with 20 points and shot 4-for-5 from three-point range.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Maine opened the game on a 10-4 run, sparked by three-pointers from Olivia Alvarez and Sarah Talon, along with layups from Adrianna Smith and Asta Blauenfeldt.

Vermont responded with an 11-2 run of its own, beginning with a Malia Lenz layup off a lead pass from Jadyn Weltz. Nikola Priede capped the surge with a turnaround jumper in the final seconds of the quarter to give the Catamounts a 15-12 lead.

The Black Bears opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run, highlighted by a Talon three-pointer and a three-point play from Lala Woods.

 Vermont answered with an 18-6 run, as Priede and Hanson combined for 14 points. Hanson knocked down a three-pointer off a Weltz assist to extend the Catamounts' lead to 33-19 with 1:29 remaining in the half.

Vermont continued its momentum to open the third quarter, going on a 12-6 run. Emma Haan connected on two three-pointers during the stretch. The teams traded baskets late in the quarter, with scoring from Lizzy Gruber for Maine, Hanson and Lenz for Vermont, before Maine closed the period with a driving layup by Smith.

The Catamounts opened the fourth quarter with a 9-4 run, highlighted by a Weltz steal and breakaway layup. Weltz later added two free throws to cap the run. Maine made a late push with a 12-2 run to close the game, but the comeback attempt fell short.

Lenz filled the stat sheet with 14 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and four assists.Â

Priede added 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and grabbed five rebounds.

Vermont shot 25-of- 53 (47.2%) from the field, compared to Maine's 21-of-51 (41.2%). The Catamounts also held the advantage from three-point range, going 6-of-14 (42.9%) to the Black Bears' 5-of-20 (25.0%).
