COACH'S QUOTE
"For me the score doesn't reflect the game in that one," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "I thought we were good for long stretches of the game 5v5. We lost the special teams battle and that kind of ruined the chance we had at coming back. Have to dial in our penalty kill. Back to work for a quick turnaround tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies opened the scoring 1:52 into the contest on the power play. Joey Muldowney and Ryan Tattle executed a give-and-go in the Vermont slot. Muldowney fed the puck to Tattle along the goal line and then moved top of the slot to one-time his team-leading 10th goal past UVM's Axel Mangbo.
- Vermont equalized midway through the first period on its first power play of the contest. The Catamounts kept the puck in at the line and created a quickly developed three-on-two. Cédrick Guindon passed out to Matteo Michels at the point. Michels fed the puck right back to him as he cut to the net and then Guindon fed a perfect backhand pass to Jonah Aegerter on the far post who slammed home his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
- UConn reestablished its lead on the power play with 2:53 to play in the second period. Jake Richard fed a cross-ice pass on a tee to Ethan Whitcomb and he one-timed home his third of the season to make it 2-1.
- With 36 seconds left in the middle frame Muldowney struck again off an offensive zone faceoff to make it a two-goal lead heading to the third period. From the top of the slot Muldowney fired a snapshot through two UVM defenders and it beat Mangbo who never saw it.
- Mike Murtagh added an insurance marker for the Huskies with 5:45 to play in the third period. His fifth goal of the season was assisted by Trey Scott and Ethan Gardula.
