BALTIMORE, Md. – Vermont (18-5, 7-1 AE) defeated UMBC (10-10, 5-3 AE) on Thursday evening at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. Nikola Priede recorded her sixth double-double of the season to lead the Catamounts to the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Vermont and UMBC were tied 4–4 at the first timeout of the game at the 4:44 mark of the opening quarter, with Keira Hanson and Priede each connecting on jumpers.

Following the timeout, the Catamounts went on a 7–2 run. Priede scored on a driving layup, Hanson followed with a turnaround jumper, and a three-pointer, giving Vermont an 11–6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Vermont opened the second quarter with a 6–0 run, highlighted by two layups from Priede and a breakaway layup from Jacklynn Hosier, forcing a UMBC timeout.

From the 7:30 mark to the end of the second quarter, the Catamounts outscored the Retrievers 19–10. Priede, Hosier, and Jadyn Weltz each scored five points during the stretch, while Hanson added four. Vermont took a 36–16 lead into halftime.

UMBC opened the third quarter with an 11–4 run, beginning with a jumper from Jade Tillman and ending with a three-pointer by Gabby Scott to cut the Catamounts' lead to 13 with 5:03 remaining in the quarter.

Vermont responded with a 13–6 run from the 4:07 mark to the end of the third quarter, starting with a corner three-pointer by Malia Lenz and ending with a layup by Priede just before the buzzer.

The Catamounts maintained momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring UMBC 10–6 from the start of the quarter to the 4:12 mark. The Retrievers closed the game on an 8–6 run. Savanna Creal and Piper Risdon both scored baskets in the final minutes for the Catamounts, as Vermont secured a 69–47 victory.
