CATAMOUNTS IN THEIR HOME OPENER
Vermont is 2-1-0 under Head Coach
Steve Wiedler in their Home Opener. Last season the Catamounts topped St. Lawrence 2-1 in their first home game. In Coach Wiedler's first season at the helm UVM's home opener was also their first league game, like it is this weekend, UVM topped UConn 4-1 on Nov. 3, 2023.
Â
Over the last 10 seasons UVM is 3-7-0 in its home opener, three of those losses have been in one-goal games. This will be the third time in program history the Terriers are the Catamounts' home opener opponent. In 1999 UVM topped BU 7-3 with four goals from Jerry Gernander '01 and in 1997 BU beat UVM 3-2.
Â
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
The Terriers were selected third in the 2026-27 Hockey East Preseason Poll, receiving two first place votes. Boston University is 2-0-0 on the young season with a pair of wins in Alaska over the Nanooks on Oct. 2-3. The second win in Alaska was Head Coach Jay Pandolfo's 100th behind the bench at BU. Last weekend they topped Brown 3-1, in an exhibition contest.
Â
Boston University leads the NCAA with 18 NHL Draft picks on the roster, headlined by the third overall pick from the 2026 NHL Draft Caleb Malhotra (Vancouver). The teams' leading scorer sophomore Tynan Lawrence (3 Pts) is also a first-round pick (St. Louis).
Â
Vermont is 25-66-10 all-time against the Terriers. UVM did win the last regular season matchup on December 6, 2025, at Agganis Arena as
Thomas Sinclair scored with 21.2 seconds left to lift the Catamounts to a 3-2 win. The Vermont win snapped a streak of 11 straight BU wins in the series.
Aiden Wright made 30 saves in that UVM win, he made 30 or more saves nine times last season.
Â
The Terriers ended UVM's 2025-26 campaign with a 4-1 win in the Hockey East Opening Round on March 11.
Jonah Aegerter is the Catamounts leading returning scorer against BU last season. He posted a goal and an assist in three games.
