#12 Men’s Soccer Returns to Conference Play Hosting NJIT Saturday Evening

BURLINGTON, Vt. – No. 12 Men's Soccer (7-1-2, 1-0-0 AE) returns to conference play on Saturday (Oct. 3) evening, welcoming NJIT (5-4-1, 1-0-0 AE) to Virtue Field during UVM Weekend presented by Dunkin'. Kickoff for the America East showdown is slated for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.TV.

PROMOTIONS:
UVM Weekend: EastRise, PC Construction (250 t-shirts), and UVM PACE will be tabling along the concourse with fun activities and small giveaways for fans. Dunkin will also be in attendance offering free drink samples on the concourse. 
 
VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • The Catamounts bring a 5-0-1 home record into their conference showdown against NJIT, most recently earning a 3-0 shutout victory over UMass in the team's final non-conference match of the regular season.
  • Since October 27, 2023, the Catamounts have strung together a 25-match unbeaten streak at home during the regular season, posting an 18-0-7 record in those 25 contests.
  • In Vermont's most recent victory over UMass, Aleksei Carnier and Arthur Caldas each scored their first goals as Catamounts while Ezra Widman, Jean-David Mougenot Koffi, and Stepan Fiker all tallied their first assists as Catamounts.
  • Pieter Bultman scored his fourth goal of the season against UMass, taking the team lead in total goals thus far.
  • Luis Fischer notched his seventh assist on the campaign, tied for the fourth most in the country, sitting atop the America East in that category.
  • Niklas Herceg notched his seventh shutout of the season, leading the country and America East in that department. Herceg surpassed Nate Silveira '22 for sole possession of the third most shutouts in program history recording his 23rd against the Minutemen. Herceg is tied for the most shutouts among active goalkeepers with 23 and second in both GAA (0.686) and save percentage (0.830).
  • Vermont holds a 7-2-0 all-time record over NJIT, entering Saturday's contest with a two-match win streak over the Highlanders. In 2024, the Catamounts defeated NJIT 2-0 on Virtue Field while last season UVM defeated the Highlanders 2-1 in Newark.
  • Vermont as a team ranks first in numerous statistical categories in America East including goal differential (+15), scoring offense (2.10), shutout percentage (0.700), total assists (25), total goals (21), and total points (67).
 
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
  • NJIT was selected to finish seventh in the 2026 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, currently holding a 5-4-1 overall record and a 1-0-0 record in conference play.
  • The Highlanders bring a three-match unbeaten streak (2-0-1) into Saturday's contest, most recently defeating Drexel on home turf 3-2 on Sept. 29.
  • NJIT's lone conference win thus far came against Binghamton on Sept. 26, defeating the Bearcats 2-1 at home, a Binghamton squad that currently sits in last place of the America East.
  • The Catamounts will be the first nationally ranked opponent NJIT has faced this season.
  • Sophomore Rebelo Diogo leads the Highlanders in goals (4) and points (9) but hasn't found the scoresheet in his last four outings.
  • Senior Barboto Maximus leads the team in assists, tallying three on the season thus far.
  • The Highlanders have gotten goal production from 10 different players on the campaign to this point.
