HOW IT HAPPENED
- Friday night was another fast start from the Catamounts; they outshot Clarkson 5-0 in the game's opening six minutes. CU's Dawson Labre, making his first start of the season, padded all five aside.
- The Catamounts outshot Clarkson 14-4 in the opening 20 minutes, matching their most shots in a period this season. The four shots on goal also matched a season-low for their opponent in a period.
- Vermont opened the scoring 4:04 into the second period. In transition Colin Kessler fired a shot from a tough angle, Labre padded it aside, but the rebound came right to Sebastian Törnqvist. Törnqvist quickly fired it back towards the net, it hit traffic in front and came right back to Kessler who put it home on the doorstep for his first of the season. Andoni Fimis earned the secondary assist on the play.
- Clarkson's Labre was injured on the Kessler goal stretching awkwardly to attempt a stop. Shane Soderwall took over for CU after the play.
- Daniel Sambuco doubled the Catamounts lead 3:28 later. Fimis knocked down a Clarkson dump in attempt and quickly got the puck up to Sambuco in the neutral zone. Sambuco beat his defender to the outside and cut in before stuffing a backhand past Soderwall.
- Clarkson's Luka Sukovic had a great chance to cut the UVM lead in half with a breakaway with 6:23 to play in the middle frame. Sukovic blocked a UVM point shot and was off to the races. He tried to beat UVM's Jacob Oster along the ice, but he made the stop to keep it 2-0.
- With 4:30 to play in the third period Clarkson finally broke through making it 2-1 with Bryce Sookro slap shot from the point. Jared Mangan won a neutral zone faceoff back to Ty Brassington and he got the puck over to Sookro. Sookro entered the UVM zone and fired it home for his second goal of the year.
- Clarkson pulled its goalie with 2:10 to play for an extra attacker. The Catamounts defense was stifling, they prevented the Golden Knights from getting a single shot on goal with the six-on-five to preserve their second win of the campaign.
