COACH'S QUOTE
"A bit of a slow start by us, but 10 minutes into the first we started to find our game," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "I thought we really controlled the game the entire second half. Special teams were good. It's a really tough way to lose after battling back. Proud of our resolve - wish our guys got a different result, but that's hockey sometimes." Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams played an even but tentative first period from Cheel Arena. Clarkson outshot the Catamounts 6-5 in a largely uneventful opening 20 minutes.
- Clarkson opened the scoring 2:34 into the second period on a defensive zone faceoff for the Catamounts. Cédrick Guindon bested Clarkson's Tyler Wallace on the draw but he won it back so cleanly that it found the back of the net. Wallace was credited with the unassisted tally.
- Vermont had a season-high total of 16 shots in the second period but couldn't solve Clarkson's Ben Gaudreau through 40 minutes.
- Ethan Burroughs equalized for the Catamounts with 3:58 to play on the power play. Gaudreau made an initial save on Michael Hagens, but Guindon centered the puck into the crease from behind the net and Burroughs was able to tap it home for UVM's first man advantage goal of the season.
- Clarkson earned their own power play opportunity in the final moments of regulation. Jacob Oster made two stops on the penalty kill to force overtime in the North Country.
- 1:38 into the extra session UVM had their best chance to win it on a two-on-one rush with Burroughs and Kessler. The two crisscrossed at the blue line before Burroughs feathered a pass to Kessler alone in front. Kessler deked to his backhand, but Clarkson's Gaudreau was just able to keep it out of the net.
- Clarkson ended the game just under a minute later on a two-on-two rush. Sigurdson took an initial shot that was blocked by UVM's Sebastian Törnqvist. The puck bounced back out to Sigurdson though and the other CU skater lost his footing while engaged with a UVM player and took out Oster. Sigurdson lifted it into the empty net to end the contest.
- Vermont challenged the play for goaltender interference but the call on the ice stood.
