BURLINGTON, Vt. — Vermont (9-2, 1-1 AE) defeated UMass Lowell (6-6, 1-1 AE), 1-0, Friday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field. Consu de Castro led the Catamounts with one goal earning Vermont their first conference win on the season.

"It was a tough conference battle today—Lowell made it difficult to execute our game plan," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "I thought our players played to our strengths, and took advantage of some key attacking opportunities. I'm glad we were able to maintain connection and weather some challenging moments."
HOW IT HAPPENED

At the end of the second quarter, the Catamounts had a penalty corner awarded with zero seconds on the clock. Jamie Lewis put one in the back of the net, but the referees waved the goal off. Vermont went into halftime tied at zero.

With 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Veerle Nijhuis ripped a shot from just inside the shooting circle, and Consu de Castro got a deflection on the ball that gave Vermont its first lead of the day. The Catamounts led the River Hawks 1-0.
