COACH'S QUOTE
"This was a scrappy team win but not one where we feel that we played especially well," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "Franklin Pierce deserves credit for playing touch and being disruptive and we are going to have to play a lot better tomorrow to come out with a win. Great to see
Zoe Charland score her first NCAA goal and
Lauren O'Hara with the game winner."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period that saw Vermont ring the crossbar on two separate occasions, the Catamounts struck first 7:59 into the middle frame seeing Charland collect her first career goal. Josie Hemp and Morgann Skoda were awarded assists on Vermont's opening goal.
- The Catamounts doubled their lead with 45 seconds in the middle frame remaining when Kaylee Lewis found Stella Retrum streaking down the short side boards, maneuvering a nasty toe drag to beat her defender and feed O'Hara who was in the slot. O'Hara wasted no time slapping the puck past Rylee Eno, tallying her first goal of the season and earning UVM a two-goal lead.
- The Ravens were able to squeak a goal in courtesy of Jillian Sano scoring with less than one minute of regulation remaining while Franklin Pierce had an empty net, but the damage was already done as Vermont skated away with the 2-1 victory during the first game of the weekend series.
