BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont men's soccer Head Coach Adrian Dubois announced on Thursday morning that Edgar Vargas has joined his staff as an Assistant Coach. Vargas returns to Catamounts Country after completing his master's in Data Analytics at San Diego State University.
 
"Edgar Vargas is an exceptional addition to our staff and someone who truly embodies everything UVM Athletics and Vermont Soccer stand for," said Head Coach Adrian Dubois. "As a former team captain, he played a massive role in building the foundation of this program and helping shape the culture and identity that continue to define us today. His leadership, work ethic, and commitment to excellence have always set him apart. Edgar understands the standards, traditions, and values that make Vermont special, and he will live and reinforce that culture every day. Our goalkeepers and our entire program will be better because of his presence."
 
A native of Yakima, Washington, Vargas was a goalkeeper for Vermont men's soccer from 2019-23 serving as a team captain in 2023 and helping Vermont reach a national ranking as high as No. 4 in the country in 2022. Vargas was a part of a UVM squad that reached the Elite Eight in 2022 and the Sweet 16 in 2023. With the Aztec's in 2024 during his graduate season, Vargas appeared in five matches making four starts and securing one shutout.
 
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to Vermont with Adrian as an Assistant Coach and officially join the staff," said Vargas. "As an alum, this program and community mean a great deal to me, and it's an honor to give back to such a special place that played a massive role in my development as a player, person, and leader. I'm excited to work with our goalkeeping group every day to help them grow on and off the field, while continuing to contribute to the culture, standards, and tradition that define Vermont Soccer."
 
Vargras attended La Salle Highschool and played for XF Crossfire and the Albany Rish prior to collegiate soccer.
