COACH'S QUOTE

"That's really been our bread and butter," said Mayer Women's Basketball Coach Alisa Kresge. "When we are locked in on defense, I think it gives us more confidence offensively. I was pleased to see that, especially coming off our last game, where I don't think we were locked in defensively."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Vermont jumped out to a quick start and never looked back. At the first media timeout, the Catamounts led 6-0 behind four points from Nikola Priede and two free throws from Jadyn Weltz.

  • Vermont closed the first quarter on an 11-2 run, with four different players scoring during the stretch. Weltz opened the run with a three-pointer, and Keira Hanson capped it by finding Priede on a pick-and-roll basket with five seconds remaining.

  • The Catamounts took a 17-2 lead into the second quarter.

  • From the start of the second quarter to the 2:28 mark, Vermont extended its advantage with a 13-3 run. Priede scored six points during the stretch, and Lenz added a three-pointer.

  • New Hampshire responded with an 8-3 run late in the quarter, beginning with a Lucia Melero layup and ending with Sydney Lusher hitting one of two free throws.

  • Vermont outscored New Hampshire 17-12 in the third quarter. Savanna Creal corralled a loose ball and converted on a putback with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter to push the Catamounts' lead to 50-25 heading into the fourth.

  • The Catamounts continued their control in the fourth quarter, opening on a 7-2 run fueled by layups from Lenz, Hanson, and Priede. New Hampshire closed the game with an 8-3 run, but the deficit proved too large as Vermont secured a 60-35 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Lenz finished with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

  • Priede led all Catamounts with 23 points and added five rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and two steals.

  • Weltz chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

  • Vermont had the edge in shooting from the field as they shot 24-of-58 (41.4%) compared to New Hampshire's 11-of-50 (22.0%) mark. The Catamounts outshot the Wildcats from beyond the arc, shooting 3-of-18 (16.7%) compared to the Wildcats 2-of-17 (11.8%) mark.
