COACH'S QUOTE
"There's not a lot of words I can say to take the sting away from the loss," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "This team overcame a lot of adversity throughout the year. I thought we deserved a little better tonight, but that wasn't in the cards for us. I'll miss this senior class they mean a lot to our coaching staff.
I was proud of our resolve and culture all year long. Our culture has never been in a better place than it is right now. That's a credit to our senior class and this young core of players we have. I will miss "the glue class"."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers opened the scoring with 2:44 to play in the first period on their first power play opportunity. Cole Hutson fed a cross-zone pass to Cole Eiserman and he one-timed a shot that just beat UVM's Aiden Wright to make it 1-0. Eiserman's 17th goal of the season was also assisted by Gavin McCarthy.
- Vermont equalized 2:51 into the second period. The Catamounts broke into the BU zone in transition and activated their offense. Jens Richards left the puck for Matteo Michels along the boards and Michels cut to the slot and fired a shot towards BU's Mikhail Yegorov. Jonah Aegerter redirected the shot and Yegorov padded it to the side of the net. Richards collected the rebound and wrapped around the back of the net before centering the puck. Richard's centering feed bounced off a BU skate and in for his sixth goal of the year.
- The Terriers appeared to retake the lead with 8:59 to play in the middle frame. Gavin McCarthy drove to the net and Wright made an initial stop but the rebound caromed in off BU's Owen McLaughlin. It was initially called a goal but after a UVM challenge it was deemed McLaughlin clearly kicked the puck in.
- BU did get the go-ahead goal 6:51 into the third period. Tynan Lawrence was first to the puck in the corner, and he was able to get a centering feed through two UVM defenders to find Eiserman alone in front. He beat Wright for the second time tonight with a quick low shot.
- With 6:24 to play Hutson added an insurance marker for the Terriers on the power play. Off a won offensive zone faceoff Hutson took the puck along the blue line from his defensive partner McCarthy. Before UVM could get set in their defensive structure Hutson skated into the slot and wired a wrist shot home for his 10th goal of the year.
- Jack Harvey added an empty-net tally with 2:45 to play to put the game out of reach.
