COACH'S QUOTE
"Always tough to see a season end and especially this one, with this tremendous group of players," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "First, credit to Northeastern. They earned the win and best of luck to them in the final and in the NCAA tournament. We got ourselves in a bit of trouble in the first period with turnovers and finally settled into the game later in the period. And then in the second period our penalties hurt the ability to generate offense, even though our penalty kill was perfect tonight. Really proud of how hard we fought to the end, and it was a fitting way for our seniors to end their careers."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northeastern opened scoring with 16:16 showing on the clock in the first period, seeing Jules Constantinople unleash a slapshot from the point, finding the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season, earning the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
- The Huskies doubled their lead just over 11 minutes later, this time getting a goal from Morgan Jackson who capitalized on a Catamount turnover in their own zone, notching her 11th goal on the campaign to propel Northeastern to a 2-0 advantage in the first frame.
- After a scoreless second period, Northeastern made it 3-0, 3:08 into the third period, seeing Eloise Caron score her 15th goal of the season picking the top left corner, gaining the Huskies a three-goal advantage.
- Vermont found the back of the net with 2:17 of play remaining in regulation while having an extra attacker on the ice with the goalie pulled, seeing Natalie Zarcone score her first goal of the season, whipping a wrist shot from the point through the five-hole of Lisa Jonsson, cutting the deficit to 3-1 in favor of Northeastern. Julia Mesplède and Sophia DeAnzeris each earned an assist on the goal.
- The Catamounts battled hard until the final buzzer, but at the end it was Northeastern that skated away with the 3-1 victory from Walter Brown Arena, advancing to the Hockey East Women's Tournament Championship game for the tenth season in a row.
