The 2016 season marks Melyssa Woods' third as an assistant coach with the Vermont field hockey program.

The Catamounts made tremendous strides in 2016, Woods’ third year in Burlington. UVM matched its combined win total from the previous two seasons and won its first six home matches for the first time since 1979. Lauren Tucker received NFHCA All-Region recognition and three Catamounts, including Tucker, picked up America East All-Conference awards.

Woods joined the UVM coaching staff following a standout playing career at New Hampshire (2009-13), where she was a four-year starter in the midfield for the Wildcats and registered a total of 22 points during her time at New Hampshire.

In her first season at UNH, woods was named to the America East All-Rookie Team after starting all 19 games and finishing the year with the most points among Wildcat freshmen. As a redshirt senior in 2013, Woods finished second on the squad in assists and fifth in goals. Following the season, she earned a spot on the New England North Team and competed at the USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship.

A native of Glens Falls, New York, Woods graduated from New Hampshire in 2014 with a degree in psychology.
