Coach Houghton on Bastiaanse: “Emily trained with the New England High Performance Team and made the travel squad that competed at American University this past summer. She is playing at the top of her game right now and has developed an advanced skill set that allows her to be a dynamic forward who can score on anyone. 2011 SEASON: Started all 17 games as a senior … Finished second on the team in goals scored (6) and points (14) … Led the team with two game-winning goals … Scored the Cats only goal in the season opener against Boston College … Tallied goals in wins over Hofstra and Cornell … Had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over St. Louis … Netted the game-winner in a 4-3 win vs. Dartmouth … Had an assist at Harvard and scored the Cats’ lone goal against New Hampshire.
2010 SEASON: Played in all 18 games, making 14 starts … Recorded six shots on the year … Earned her first career points as a Catamount with Vermont’s only goal in a 2-1 loss at Fairfield.
2009 SEASON: Played in all 18 games, making a pair of starts … Recorded starts against William & Mary and Brown.
2008 SEASON: Played in 15 games as a freshman for the Catamounts, recording six shots.
BEFORE UVM: Comes to Vermont from Granby Memorial High School, where she helped guide her team to three Class S State Championships in her four years ... A team captain this past season, she was also named all-state, NCCC All-Conference, All-Courant and to the Senior All-Star Game as a senior ... Bastiaanse took part in the USFHA Futures Elite program in 2006 and 2007, while also playing in the National Futures Tournament in each of the two years.
PERSONAL: Is the daughter of John and Margaret Bastiaanse ... Has three siblings, Andrea, Jessica and Joseph ... Sister Andrea plays field hockey at Longwood University ... Her mother Margaret played field hockey and softball in college at Western New England ... Plans to major in nursing.
