AS A SENIOR (2011): Started all 14 games he played in during his final year in Catamount Country … Anchored a defensive unit that gave up only 8.70 goals per game this season, compared to 10.81 in 2010 … Grabbed 22 ground balls on the year, good for sixth on the team … Caused 17 turnovers, good for second on the Catamounts.
AS A JUNIOR (2010): O’Brien played in 12 of 16 games … Had 23 ground balls … Had four ground balls in a 9-5 loss at Drexel in the season opener … Picked up four ground balls in a 14-6 loss at Delaware on March 27.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2009): O’Brien made 13 starts and ranked fifth on the team in ground balls with 25 … Grabbed three ground balls in an 11-4 win at Bellarmine on March 12 … Had four ground balls in a 13-7 loss to No. 2 Notre Dame in the Patriot Cup at SMU Ford Field in Dallas, Texas on March 21 … Recorded four ground balls in an 8-7 win against Hartford on March 28 at Moulton Winder Field … Had four ground balls in a 10-8 loss at Fairfield on March 31.
AS A FRESHMAN (2008): O’Brien played in 13 games and made five starts … Had 15 ground balls.
BEFORE VERMONT: O’Brien played three years of hockey and golf at Winthrop High School in Winthrop, Mass. … He went on to play lacrosse, hockey, soccer and golf at The Rivers School (Weston, Mass.) and Phillips Exeter (Exeter, N.H.) ... He led Phillips Exeter in ground balls in 2007 and was named to the Division I All-New England Team as a long stick midfielder and defenseman.
