AS A SOPHOMORE (2010): Bernstein won the 2010 NCAA National Championship in the 20k freestyle on March 13 in Steamboat Springs, Colo., at Howelsen Hill … Became the first Catamount to win a national championship in the freestyle since Vermont Hall of Famer Thorodd Bakken '98 capped off a stretch of three straight titles in the freestyle in 1998 … Bernstein is the eighth different male Nordic skier to win a national championship in UVM history ... Also finished second in the 10k classic at the NCAA's on March 11 … Earned First-Team NCAA All-American honors … Other honors included: 2010 Male Nordic Skier of the Year (Ski Racing Magazine), 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I At-Large Team, 2010 First-Team All-East and 2010 NCAA All-Academic Team … Had a total of 11 top-10 finishes on the season and six wins ... Named to the NCAA All-Academic Team and was First-Team All-East ... Ranked third in the classic and seventh in the freestyle in the final Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Rankings ... Finished ninth in the 10k classic and 12th in the 20k freestyle at the Bates Carnival on Jan. 23 and 24 ... Was seventh in the classic sprint and 14th in the 10k freestyle at the New Hampshire Carnival on Jan. 30 and 31 ... Finished fifth in the 15k classic at the Vermont Carnival on Feb. 7 ... Skied to a third-place finish in the 10k classic and a second-place finish in the 15k freestyle at the Dartmouth Carnival on Feb. 13 and 14 ... Took first-place in the 10k classic at the Middlebury Carnival on Feb. 20 ... Finished seventh in the 20k freestyle at the EISA Championships hosted by Colby on Feb. 28 ...
