Emmaline Berg is in her third season as an assistant coach with the track and field program at Vermont. She works with men and women’s throwers and pole vaulters. She came to Burlington in the fall of 2017 from Dartmouth College, where she served as a volunteer assistant for the track and field program for two and a half years. She also has sports marketing experience working with Learfield Sports, as a property assistant for Big Green Sports Properties, and business management from her time running the administrative side of the Catholic Student Center at Dartmouth.
Berg is certified from the USTFCCCA in strength and conditioning, program management, meet management, and as a throws specialist. She has her level 1 coaching certification from USATF and is a certified track and field official.
Berg graduated from Concordia University Irvine with a Masters in Coaching and Athletics Administration in 2020 after receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Dartmouth in 2014. At Dartmouth, she was a four-year member of the track and field team. She received the Herb Chase Track & Field Award for Most Improved Athlete and went on to compete post-collegiately. As a USATF Senior Level thrower, Berg threw the shot put 55’ and the discus 175’, and competed in the 2016 and 2017 USATF Indoor Championships.
Since arriving at Vermont, Berg helped her athletes develop considerably. She has had an athlete place at each America East Championship event they have entered and had the highest placing female UVM athlete, pole vaulter Marina Cannon ’21, at the 2019 Outdoor America East Championship. Other highlights include a third place in men’s pole vault with Andy Chess ‘GR20, a fourth place in men’s shot put for Shane O’Connor ’20, and a 6th place finish in the discus at the New England Championships for Morgan Ferland ’19.
Berg has proven her recruiting strengths as well, by securing the best Vermont male javelin thrower in 2018 and the best Vermont male shot put and discus thrower in 2019.
“I am very pleased to have Emmaline on our staff,” Head Coach Matt Belfield said. “She brings both the professional and personal characteristics that will allow her to succeed here at Vermont. Coming from Dartmouth, Emmaline has an understanding of the challenges that our student-athletes face here at the University of Vermont. I’m confident that her enthusiasm and drive will turn those challenges into success stories on a regular basis.”
