JUNIOR SEASON (2017): Named to the NCAA All-America First Team after crossing the finish line in third place in the women's 5K classical and second place in the women's 15K freestyle race at the national championships ... Only American skier to reach the podium in both Nordic races ... Top-ranked Nordic skier on the EISA leaderboard heading into the NCAA Championships ... Earned EISA First Team honors ... Garnered FasterSkier Collegiate Skier of the Year Honorable Mention honors
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2016): Competed in 10 races and was named to the UVM NCAA squad for the second straight season ... Earned her first career win in the classic race at the UVM Carnival ... Was on the podium six times ... Also earned a victory in the skate race at Williams ... Was the runner-up in the freestyle at the EISA Championships and added a third place finish in the classic race ... Finished 28th in the freestyle and 33rd in the classic races at the NCAA Championships.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2015): Named the EISA Women’s Nordic Rookie of the Year … Posted five top-10 finishes … Earned a spot on the podium in her first collegiate race with a third place finish in the classic race at the season opening Bates Carnival … Also placed fourth in the freestyle at Bates … Was fourth in the freestyle at the EISA Championships … Was a member of UVM’s NCAA team as a rookie.
BEFORE VERMONT: Was the Junior National Champion in 2013 ... Placed third in 2012, for the third time in her career ... Was a two-time Minnesota State runner-up and was a National Training Group participant in 2013.
PERSONAL: Is the daughter of Seve and Jill Sonnesyn ... Older sibling Marit is a member of the Nordic skiing and cross country/track and field teams at Gustavus Adolphus College ... Also has a younger sibling Anders ... Name is pronounced uh-lay-nuh son-eh-son ... Is a nursing major at Vermont.
