Helped the Catamounts reach the Hockey East Semifinals for the second time in program history ... Had her first point of the year, an assist, in Vermont’s season-opening win at Union (Oct. 4) ... Lit the lamp and added two helpers, including on the game-winner, in a win over No. 9 BU (Oct. 9) ... Scored and chipped in an assist in a tie at No. 10 Boston University (Jan. 14) ... Registered a three-point weekend at home against New Hampshire (Feb. 3 & 4) ... Had a goal and an assist in the first two games of the series (Feb. 24 & 25) ... Scored the series-winning goal at Providence in Game 3 of the Hockey East Quarterfinals (Feb. 26), also contributing two assists ... Finished the year +11.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2015-16): Saana skated in 35 games for the Catamounts and ended the season with seven goals, four assists and 11 points ... Recorded an assist in a win against Providence (Oct. 24) for her first career point ... Netted her first career goal and had an assist against Maine (Nov. 1) ... Had an assist and an empty net goal in a 4-2 win over Union (Jan. 2) ... Scored a shorthanded goa which held up as the game-winner in a 4-1 decision at Maine (Jan. 10) ... BEFORE VERMONT: Valkama played with Ilves Tampere in the Finnish Women's League in 2014-15 ... She represented Finland at the 2014 Four Nations Cup in Kamloops, British Columbia, playing in four games ... Valkama began her international career at the 2011 U18s, in six games she had three goals and one assist ... She scored the final goal in a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic in the bronze medal game ... At the 2012 U18's, she was an assistant captain as Finland finished fifth overall ... She had one goal in four games ... In the Spring of 2012, Valkama played in Burlington, Vermont during the Women's World Championship … She skated in six games, all at Gutterson Fieldhouse, as Finland finished fourth overall.
