2012-13: Won the 1,000 freestyle in three straight meets to open the season (at Army, vs. Wagner and vs. UNH) … Took the top spot in the 500 (5:09.53) and 1,000 (10:35.39) freestyle events at Maine … Earned first place in the 200 IM (2:09.98) against Central Connecticut State … Won the 200 IM (2:09.55), 500 free (5:05.31) and 1,000 free (10:34.32) at Bryant … Won the 200 breaststroke (2:23.97) and also set a new CCSU pool record in the 1650 freestyle (17:11.52) at the Invitational, beating the old record by 24 seconds … Won the 1,000 free (10:30.37), finished second in the 500 free (5:10.05) and took third in the 400 IM (4:38.90) at Northeastern … Earned first place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.41), 500 free (5:06.75) and 1,000 (10:35.62) free on senior day vs. URI ... Earned all-conference honors at the America East Championship by finishing third in the 1650 freestyle (17:06.41), also finished 5th in the 500 free (4:56.73) and 8th in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.03).
2011-12: Opened the season with three wins at Army, by finishing first in the 1,000 (10:25.12) and 500 (5:08.21) freestyle events and in the 200 IM (2:12.53) … Finished second in both the 500 freestyle (5:08.54) and 400 IM (4:39.69) at the Husky Invitational … Came in second in the 800 free at the Harvard Invite long course meet with a time of 9:25.29 … Took first in the 1,000 (10:26.04) and 500 (5:06.27) freestyle events against Siena … Won the 200 breaststroke (2:27.77) and finished second in the 200 free (1:57.96) at Niagara … Took first in the 500 (5:07.90) and 1,000 (10:24.24) freestyle events against Maine … Won the 500 (5:12.57) and 1,000 (10:34.08) freestyle events vs. Bryant … Swept the 500 (5:01.98) and 1,000 (10:19.04) freestyle events at New Hampshire … Won the 500 (5:06.61) and 1,000 (10:20.24) freestyle events against Central Connecticut … Won the 500 (5:05.55) and finished second in the 1,650 (17:25.38) freestyle events vs. Dartmouth … Won the 1,650 freestyle in 17:34.13 vs. Northeastern … Placed first in the 500 freestyle at Rhode Island (5:04.90) … Finished fifth in the 1,650 (17:11.15), eighth in the 500 (4:59.04) and 13th in the 200 (1:53.54) freestyle events at the America East Championship.
2010-11: One of the top swimmers in the conference, she competed in the distance freestyle and IM events as a sophomore … Won the 1,000 free seven times in eight tries on the year … Opened the season with three wins in a meet against Army, Stony Brook and Boston College by taking first in the 500 (5:07.74) and 1,000 (10:29.47) free as well as winning the 200 IM (2:10.92) … Earned three wins against Northeastern in the 500 (5:07.62) and 1,000 (10:27.16) free, and the 200 IM (2:12.44) … Swept the 200 free (1:55.43), 500 free (5:10.56) and 400 IM (4:32.79) against Bryant … Won the 500 (5:07.44) and 1,000 (10:25.02) freestyle events as well as the 400 IM (4:34.15) vs. Yale … Placed first in the 500 (5:07.34) and 1,000 (10.22.44) against Rhode Island … Earned all-conference honors at the America East Championship with a second-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle with a school record time of 16:50.77 … In the same event she also broke the school record in the 1,000 with a time of 10:12.07 … Also finished ninth in the 500 free (4:57.67) and 10th in the 400 IM (4:27.72) at the championships.
2010 Summer: Gardner competed in the 2010 USA Swimming Open Water Championships and National Team Trials on June 6. She finished 14th overall in the 5K National Championship and was ninth among American swimmers in an event that was held at the Long Beach Marine Stadium in Long Beach, Calif. Gardner completed the 5K course in a time of 1:03.25 ... Gardner also finished 60th in the 800 freestyle at the ConocoPhillips National Championships at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. Gardner finished the long course event with a new personal best time of 9:00.27.
2009-10: Had an outstanding freshman year that saw her finish first in the 1,000 freestyle eight times in nine tries … In her first collegiate meet against Army, Boston College and Stony Brook she posted wins in both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events … She would go on to win the 1,000 free in six straight meets and the only time she didn’t win the 1,000 came at Central Connecticut State, when she placed second … On the year she would compete in eight different events, also seeing success in the 500 free (five second place finishes and two thirds) and the 200 IM (one win, four seconds and one third) … At the America East Championship meet she placed fourth in the 1,650 freestyle (17:05.31) and 400 IM (4:27.62), while also earning a ninth-place finish in the 500 free (4:56.28) … In all three conference championship events she set new Vermont freshmen records in the process, while her time in the 400 IM also broke the school varsity mark … She posted the second-most points by a freshmen at the championship meet.
Before UVM: Attended Ithaca High School in her hometown of Ithaca, N.Y. ... Was a team captain in 2008 ... Helped Ithaca win the state championship from 2005-08 ... Set a school record in the 500 freestyle and was part of a pool record in the 400 freestyle relay ... Earned All-American status in the 400 free relay.
