BURLINGTON, Vt. – A total of 16 Catamounts earned All-East honors following the team's fifth straight EISA Championship last weekend.
Will St. Germain of the alpine team and
Alayna Sonnesyn of the Nordic team were named EISA Rookie of the Year in their respective disciplines to highlight the Vermont honors.
St. Germain won both the slalom and giant slalom races at the EISA Championships and posted four wins overall on the EISA Circuit, while also reaching the podium seven times.
Sonnesyn finished fourth in the freestyle race at the EISA Championships and finished in the top-10 five times this year.
Kristina Riis-Johannessen, who won the giant slalom at the EISA Championships and was the runner-up in the slalom, earned a spot on the All-East First Team for the fourth straight season. She has five wins and seven podium appearances in 2015.
Elli Terwiel joined Riis-Johannessen on the All-East First Team. Terwiel won the slalom and was the runner-up in the giant slalom at the EISA Championships. The 2012 EISA Women's Alpine Rookie of the Year returned to the EISA Circuit this season after taking the 2013-14 campaign off to train with Team Canada and compete in the Olympics in Sochi.
Laurence St. Germain, the sister of Will, earned a spot on the All-East Second Team. She finished third in the slalom and posted eight top-10 finishes on the year.
Griffin Brown and
Dom Garand joined
Will St. Germain on the All-East First Team in the men's alpine division. Brown posted five top-10 finishes, while Garand earned All-East honors for the third time in his career. Garand, the 2013 EISA Men's Alpine Rookie of the Year, had four top-10 finishes this season.
Taylor Wunsch,
Sandy Vietze and
Gaby Coulet rounded out the alpine team's EISA honors. The trio earned All-East Second Team honors. Wunsch was honored for the second straight year, while Vietze and Coulet earn the honor in their first seasons at Vermont.
The UVM Nordic team was well represented on the All-East squad.
MK Cirelli earned All-East First Team honors in her first season at Vermont. She transferred to UVM from Northern Michigan and picked up eight top-10 finishes, including a string of three straight runner-up finishes early in the season.
Stephanie Kirk and
Marion Woods joined Sonneysn on the All-East Second Team. Kirk earned All-East honors for the second straight year, while Woods was recognized for the first time.
Kirk was third in the freestyle race at the EISA Championships, while Woods finished fifth in both races.
Jorgen Grav,
Rogan Brown and
Jack Hegman represented the Catamounts on the All-East Men's Nordic Team. Grav and Brown earned first-team honors, while Hegman was named to the second team.
Grav, the 2013 EISA Men's Nordic Rookie of the Year, earned All-East honors for the third time in his career. Grav was on the podium five times this season and was the runner-up in the classic race at the EISA Championships.
Brown also picked up his third straight All-East accolade. He was on he podium in every freestyle race this season and was runner-up in the discipline at the EISA Championships.
Hegman finished every race in the top-10 this season to earn All-East honors for the first time in his career.
Vermont won its fifth straight EISA Championship and 35th in program history last weekend. The Catamounts completed the EISA Circuit unbeaten for the 19th time since 1979 and extended its EISA Carnival win streak to 21 straight victories.
Up next for the Catamounts is the 2015 NCAA Championships at Lake Placid from March 11-14. Vermont finished as the national runner-up at the 2014 NCAA Championships in Park City, Utah.
