BURLINGTON, Vt. – Melyssa Alonso scored just over six minutes into the second overtime period to lift Rider over Vermont, 2-1, in non-conference field hockey action at Moulton Winder Field on Sunday afternoon.

Alonso collected a rebound off an initial shot by Rider, and sent a shot into the partially open goal for the game-winner. The goal was Alonso's first of the season.

Rider (7-5) opened the scoring in the contest in the 52
nd minute of play. Carlota Alsina blasted a shot from the top of the circle, which found its way into the back of the net to give the Broncs a 1-0 advantage.

Vermont (1-12) quickly answered with its own goal under a minute later.
Molly Higgins streaked down the end line and sent a pass to freshman
Kyra Lee in front of goal. Lee one-timed a shot past Rider goalie Joelle Prettyman to even the score at 1-1. The tally was Lee's first of her career with the Catamounts.

Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the second half and first overtime period until Alonso's game-winner in double overtime.

Prettyman earned the victory in goal for Rider with a four-save effort, while rookie
Lena Benwood took the loss for Vermont despite making six stops, including multiple big saves in the overtime periods.
