VERMONT MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOKThe 17th-ranked Vermont men's hockey team (3-0-0, 1-0-0 HEA) returns to Gutterson Fieldhouse on Saturday night (Oct. 25) to host the UConn Huskies (1-2-1, 0-1-0 HEA) in the first Hockey East matchup between the schools at 7:05 p.m. Live high definition video is available for free via

SportsJuice.com with pre-game radio coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.

SETTING THE SCENEVermont is coming off a home-and-home sweep of former ECAC rival Clarkson last weekend, out-scoring the Golden Knights 5-1. UVM is off to its first perfect 3-0-0 start since 2005, when the team won its first seven games, and it is ranked 17th in this week's USCHO.com poll. Saturday marks the first matchup between Vermont and UConn since Dec. 20, 2003 during
Kevin Sneddon's first year as head coach.
LAST FRIDAY: VERMONT 2, CLARKSON 1 | HighlightsNick Luukko wristed home a power play goal at the 5:33 mark of the third period to lift Vermont past Clarkson 2-1 in the home opener at sold out Gutterson Fieldhouse.
Jake Fallon opened the scoring late in the first period and added an assist in the third for a multi-point game.
Brody Hoffman stopped 20 shots, including a breakaway late in the second period after the Golden Knights had tied the score at one.
LAST SATURDAY: VERMONT 3, CLARKSON 0Mike Santaguida posted a 28-save shutout in his season debut as Vermont swept the series with a convincing 3-0 victory at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, New York.
Kevin Irwin registered his first career goal, while
Mario Puskarich and
Mike Paliotta each posted multi-point games with a goal and an assist. Vermont's penalty kill was a perfect 7-for-7 on the night, including a full two-minute 5-on-3 late in the second period.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES | WebsiteUConn begins its first season as the 12th member of Hockey East this year. Last year the Huskies won 18 games, including 15 conference victories, but fell to Robert Morris in the Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals. Connecticut graduated its top-3 scorers from last year's team, and its leading returner is Shawn Pauly who posted nine goals and 12 assists in 2013-14. Rob Nichols has started all four games this year with a 2.71 GAA and .928 SV%. Former Boston College assistant Mike Cavanaugh begins his second season as the head coach and led UConn past No. 15 Quinnipiac 4-1 on Tuesday night.
SERIES HISTORYTonight marks the 19th all-time meeting in series history and the first since 2003, which was
Kevin Sneddon's first year as head coach. UVM beat UConn 4-3 in overtime on Dec. 20, 2003 for Sneddon's first victory. The Catamounts lead the series 16-1-1 and are 9-0-1 in the last 10 meetings. The teams first met in 1963, Vermont's inaugural season of men's hockey, but have matched up just twice since 1975.
