Men’s Hockey Cruises Past Royal Military College 8-0 in Exhibition Game

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 8, Royal Military 0 | Box Score
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Eight players scored a goal and eighteen different players recorded a point as Vermont cruised past Royal Military College of Canada 8-0 in exhibition action on Sunday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts out-shot the Paladins 64-7 and limited RMC to just one shot on goal in the final 40 minutes of play.

"I liked the fact we tried a lot of things, a lot of the concepts we've been talking about," said head coach Kevin Sneddon. "You could definitely see the speed and skill out there. A lot of positives to focus in on but enough to look at the video and say we need to improve this. Loved the work ethic, physical, we did a lot of really good things."

UVM opened the scoring midway through the first period. Brendan Bradley picked out linemate Jarrid Privitera, who dragged the puck to his forehand. The rookie fired a wrist shot from the edge of the right faceoff circle into the upper right corner past Evan Deviller. Nick Luukko picked up the second assist on the play at 10:25.

The Catamounts out-shot the Paladins 20-6 in the opening frame and extended their lead early in the second period. Mario Puskarich spun away from a check in the right circle and backhanded a pass to Brendan Bradley across the zone. Bradley one-timed a shot into the net before Deviller could get across his crease to double the lead at 1:46.

The power play began to click at the 8:34 mark as Puskarich whacked home his own rebound at the left side of the crease for a 3-0 cushion. Jonathan Turk then stuck home a low rebound under Deviller's pad with one second left in the period for another power play tally.

UVM began the third period with a pair of goals in the span of just eight seconds to put the game out of reach. Rob Darrar tipped Yvan Pattyn's point shot inside the right pipe at 2:41 to extend the Cats' lead to five. Mike Stenerson then deked his way into the RMC zone and wristed a shot that trickled through Deviller's pads at 2:49.

Brady Shaw snapped a quick shot into the net glove side off a faceoff win at 12:31, and Colin Markison capped off the scoring with a low wrister late in the contest after an individual rush.

Brody Hoffman finished the night with seven saves, and Mike Santaguida was not forced to make a stop in 28 minutes of action. Deviller closed the afternoon with 56 saves in the RMC net. UVM went 2-for-8 on the power play while its penalty kill was perfect in two attempts.

The Catamounts begin the regular season next Saturday (Oct. 11) with a Hockey East contest at Northeastern in Boston at 7 p.m. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on WVMT 620-AM and online at SportsJuice.com with Alastair Ingram on the call.
