BOSTON – Northeastern sophomore Hayley Scamurra scored her first career hat trick to lead the Huskies to a 7-3 win over Vermont Saturday afternoon in Hockey East action from Matthews Arena.

Northeastern got on the board early against the Catamounts converting on its first power play of the game 57 seconds in. Lauren Kelly one-timed a shot on net that Vermont's
Madison Litchfield padded aside but Scamurra buried the rebound for her fourth goal of the season.

Scamurra struck again at the 7:35 mark of the first period. She redirected a Lucie Povova shot from the slot to give the Huskies an early two-goal cushion.

Just 67 seconds later the Huskies stretched their lead to three with another power play goal. Denisa Krizova found McKenna Brand alone in front and she one-timed a shot past Litchfield. The freshman's fourth goal of the season was also assisted by Heather Mottau.

Vermont answered back 51 seconds later as
Sarah Campbell beat Northeastern's Chloe Desjardins for her third goal of the season to make it 3-1 in favor of the Huskies.
Casey Leveillee assisted on Campbell's tally, which occurred with 10:27 left in the first period.

Krizova extended the Northeastern lead back to three with an even strength tally two minutes later. The Huskies forced a turnover behind the Vermont net and Krizova stepped out front and fired a snapshot past Litchfield for her third goal of the season.

Vermont cut the Huskies lead back to two with a late power play goal of their own.
Amanda Drobot fired a high shot that Desjardins stopped with her shoulder, but
Brittany Zuback quickly found the rebound and buried it for her 11
th goal of the season. Zuback's tally extended her program record goal-scoring streak to eight games.
Dayna Colang also earned an assist on the power play goal, her team-leading 16
th point of the season.

Kendall Coyne picked up her 11
th goal of the season at the 15:20 mark of the second period to make it 5-2 in favor of the Huskies. During a period of four-on-four play she made a move to step around a Vermont defender and beat Litchfield with a backhand for her eighth career goal against Vermont.

Once again the Catamounts cut the Northeastern lead back to two quickly. With 2:47 left in the second period
Sarah Kelly picked up her second goal of the season. Zuback passed to
Bridget Baker, who spun away from a Northeastern defender and fired a shot that deflected off Kelly's skate in front and past Desjardins.

Scamurra completed her first career hat trick 1:50 into the third period. She took an outlet pass from Krizova and used a Vermont defender as a partial screen as she fired a high shot past Litchfield to make it 6-3.

Coyne scored her second goal of the game with 11:21 left in regulation. She made a diving poke at a loose puck in front of the Vermont net to make it 7-3. Following the goal Vermont went to
Molly Depew to finish the third period. Litchfield made 16 saves for the Catamounts.

Desjardins stopped 31 shots for Northeastern as she picked up her fourth win of the season. Depew made eight saves in just over 11 minutes of action for the Catamounts.

Vermont closes out its six-game road trip tomorrow afternoon as they face Northeastern at 2 p.m.
