VERMONT MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOKThe 14th-ranked Vermont men's hockey team (4-1-1, 2-1-1 HEA) returns to Gutterson Fieldhouse this weekend to host the Maine Black Bears (3-4-1, 2-0-0 HEA) at 7:05 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 7) and Saturday (Nov. 8) in Hockey East play. SportsJuice.com, as pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. each night with

TICKETS | Buy OnlineA limited number of reserved tickets are still available for both games of the Hockey East series this weekend. Reserved seats are $22 for adults and $17 for children 17 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at

PROMOTIONSFriday is "Jack Trick" Night to honor Jack Lyman, who joined the men's hockey team two seasons ago through the Team IMPACT organization, as free thundersticks and T-shirts will be handed out to UVM students. There will also be a Founder's Day Pep Rally on Friday at the student pre-game meal in the indoor track. Saturday at Gutterson is Family Fun Night, including face painting presented by Flat Fee Real Estate. On Friday, Nokian Tyres and Champlain Medical will have tables in the main lobby, while Hannaford and Suncommon will be tabling on Saturday.
SETTING THE SCENEThe Catamounts earned one point last weekend at 20th-ranked Notre Dame and enter the night with just one loss in their first six games. Vermont has taken the last three home meetings against Maine by a combined score of 11-4 and is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings. The Cats dropped one spot to No. 14 in this week's USCHO.com Poll and remained ranked in the USA Today/USA Hockey Poll at No. 15.
LAST SATURDAY: VERMONT 2, NOTRE DAME 2 | HighlightsColin Markison stuck home a rebound with 40 seconds remaining in regulation as Vermont battled back from two goals down in the third period for a 2-2 tie at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Jake Evans and Mario Lucia gave the Fighting Irish a 2-0 lead in the second period, but
Brady Shaw cut the deficit in half early in the third. The Catamounts finished the night with a 44-28 advantage in shots, out-shooting the Irish by 29 on the weekend.
Brody Hoffman made 26 saves for UVM, while Cal Peterson stopped 42 shots for Notre Dame in the tie.
LAST FRIDAY: NOTRE DAME 3, VERMONT 2 | HighlightsThomas DiPauli scored twice, including the game-winner at 7:31 of the third, to lead Notre Dame past Vermont 3-2 in the series opener. The Fighting Irish led by two through 20 minutes after goals from DiPauli and Lucia in the final three minutes of the first period. Vermont responded with goals from
Jarrid Privitera (first career goal) and
Kyle Reynolds in the final five minutes of the middle frame.
Mike Santaguida recorded 20 saves in a losing effort, while Peterson stopped 34 shots for his third win of the season.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS | WebsiteMaine swept UMass Amherst in Orono last weekend with a 6-5 overtime win on Friday night, followed by a come-from-behind 3-2 victory on Saturday. The Black Bears ride a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) into the weekend as they play just their second true road game of the season. Cam Brown leads the team with four goals and is tied with Blaine Byron for the lead in points (7). Sophomore goalie Matt Morris has started five games between the pipes with a 2-2-1 record, 2.87 goals against average, and .901 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORYThis weekend marks the 45th and 46th meetings of the all-time series, led by Maine 21-19-4. The Catamounts were 3-1-0 against the Black Bears last season, including a non-conference sweep in Burlington on Nov. 29-30, 2013. UVM is 7-9-2 all-time against Maine at Gutterson Fieldhouse, but the Cats have won four of the last five contests overall against the Black Bears.
