BURLINGTON, Vt. - Kimmy Lizotte and Taylor Gaines registered a goal apiece, but Quinnipiac came back to defeat Vermont, 3-2, in non-conference field hockey action at Moulton Winder Field on Sunday.
 
Quinnipiac (2-5) netted the opening goal of the afternoon on Savanna Reilly's first tally of the season. Michelle Federico sent a long pass ahead to Reilly, who lifted a shot to the far corner to give the Bobcats the early lead.
 
Vermont (0-7) responded in the 13^th minute on Lizotte's first career goal with the Catamounts. The sophomore fired a shot, which was originally turned away by Quinnipiac's goalie. Lizotte was able to collect the rebound and sent another shot, which hit off the crossbar and bounced just over the goal line. The tally evened the contest at 1-1.
 
The Catamounts grabbed their first lead of the game just over a minute later on Gaines' third score of the year. Quinnipiac was called for an obstruction penalty in their own zone, which resulted in a penalty stroke for Vermont. On the stroke, Gaines lifted it into the top corner to put Vermont ahead, 2-1.
 
Quinnipiac evened the score 12 minutes into the second half after Danielle Allan received a pass from Meghan McCullough and sent a one-timer past Vermont goalie Lena Benwood.  
 
Gemma Cirera put the Bobcats on top with the go-ahead goal off a pass from Megan Osanitsch midway through the second period. Cirera received the pass near the post and fired a one-timer to give Quinnipiac a 3-2 advantage.
 
The Bobcats were able to hold off Vermont for the remainder of the contest to earn their second victory of the year.
 
Megan Conaboy made one save to collect her second win of the season in net for Quinnipiac. Lena Benwood earned her second consecutive start in goal for the Catamounts and stopped four shots in the contest.
