Ashley McDonald tallied an early goal to put Vermont out ahead, but Pacific came back to edge the Catamounts, 2-1, in non-conference field hockey action Thursday at Chase Astroturf Field.
Vermont jumped out to a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the contest on McDonald's first goal of the season. The senior picked up a rebound in front of the net and lifted it past Pacific goalie Laura Pujade to give the Catamounts an early advantage.
Â
Pacific evened the score at 1-1 later in the half on Nicole Laskosky's unassisted tally. Laskosky corralled a rebound and sent a low shot past Vermont goalie
Emily Snowden for the Tigers' first score of the contest.
Â
Pacific grabbed its first lead two minutes into the second half. Laskosky received a pass from Hannah Tvergyak and sent a shot to the far corner to put the Tigers ahead, 2-1.
With seconds remaining in the contest, Vermont drew a penalty corner following a dangerous play by Pacific. Freshman
Taylor Gaines received the ball at the top of the circle and blasted a shot towards the corner, but Pujade was able to make a lunging save to secure the 2-1 victory for Pacific.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 1-2 on the year, while Vermont drops to 0-3.
Snowden took the loss in goal for the Catamounts despite making 13 saves. Pujade earned the win for the Tigers after stopping eight shots.
