BURLINGTON, Vt. – Anne-Marie Farmer and
Taylor Gaines each tallied a goal and an assist for Vermont, but Kent State held off the Catamounts for a 4-3 victory in non-conference field hockey action Saturday at Moulton Winder Field.

Kent State (2-2) got on the board first on Hannah Faulkner's goal 23 minutes into play. Faulkner received a pass on the far post and found the back of the net to give the Golden Flashes a 1-0 lead.

Vermont (0-4) responded just over a minute later on
Taylor Gaines' second goal of the year. The freshman got the ball at the top of the circle and sent a pass to Farmer, who gave it right back to Gaines. Gaines sent a low shot past goalkeeper Andrea Rinehart to even the score at 1-1.

Julia Hofmann of Kent State put her team back on top with a pair of goals in the opening nine minutes of the second half. The Golden Flashes held a 3-1 advantage until the 62
nd minute, when senior
Ashley McDonald scored off a one-timer to pull the Catamounts back within one score. Gaines picked up the assist on the play.

Just over three minutes after McDonald's tally, Madison Thompson gave Kent State a two-goal cushion after burying a low shot from a few yards out.

With just over a minute remaining in the contest, Farmer netted her first career goal to pull the Catamounts within one, 4-3.
Molly Higgins sent a shot towards net, which was deflected by Farmer into the back of the net.

The Golden Flashes held off Vermont in the final one and a half minutes of play to secure their second victory of the year.

Andrea Rinehart made two saves to earn her second straight win in goal for Kent State.
Emily Snowden made 14 saves for the Catamounts, and now has three double-digit save performances on the season.

Vermont returns to action next weekend for the Catamount Field Hockey Classic. UVM hosts Hofstra on Saturday (Sept. 13) at 12 p.m., and takes on Harvard the following day at 2:30 p.m. Both games can be seen for free in HD via
