Buy TicketsVermont earned its fourth playoff appearance in five years under head coach
Kristi Lefebvre with a 2-1 victory at Binghamton on Sunday in the regular season finale. UVM trailed 1-0 in the second half, but scored twice in a 90-second span, capped by
Nikki McFarland's game-winning tally in the 72nd minute to earn a 2-1 victory.
The victory over the Bearcats pulled Vermont into a three-way tie with Albany and Maine. The Catamounts finished behind Albany in the tiebreak, but beat Maine during the regular season to take the No. 3 seed. It is the highest seed for the program since Vermont was the top seed in a four-team playoff in 1996.
Vermont enters the playoffs with a 7-7-2 mark, collecting the most wins since 2005. The Catamounts are 7-4-1 versus UMBC in the all-time series and defeated the Retrievers, 3-2 in double-overtime earlier this year in Baltimore. Sophomore
Sarah Martin's strike with 1:17 remaining in the second overtime lifted UVM to the win.
Vermont is 2-1-2 against UMBC in the last five meetings and defeated the Retrievers 2-1 in Burlington in 2014.
Thursday's game will be streamed for free online via the America East Digital Network at AmericaEast.tv.
