FINAL SCORE: Binghamton 2, Vermont 1BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Binghamton Bearcats scored twice in the first half and held off a late rally by Vermont to post a 2-1 victory in the America East opener for both teams at Virtue Field on Saturday.
"Binghamton came in with a great attitude and executed their game plan well, they deserved the win. I felt we were inconsistent and never really able to gain a foothold in the game. Binghamton was able to keep us off balance. Overall we need to have a better collective all around effort on our end," said Vermont head coach

RELATED LINKSBox ScoreCatamounTV Highlights Tucker Sandercock connected with Logan Robert in the 17th minute to give Binghamton an early 1-0 lead. Sandercock fed a pass to Robert from the left side of the penalty area and Robert was able to finish of the play with a short-range shot.
In the 32nd minute, the Bearcats used a friendly bounce to push their lead to 2-0. A scramble off a corner kick led to a shot deflecting off the goal post and a UVM defender before finding the feet of Pascal Trappe who was able to one time a shot into the back of the net.
Binghamton took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Vermont's pressure late in the game allowed the Catamounts to cut the lead in half in the 86th minute.
Skyler Davis headed a free kick by
Loftur Eriksson to the far post and
Brian Wright was able to finish off the play with a header for his sixth goal of the season.
The Catamounts could not push the game into overtime in the closing minutes.
Robert Moewes was credited with two saves in the Binghamton net to pick up the victory, while
Greg Walton made three stops for Vermont.
Binghamton improves to 6-4-1 overall and opens league play at 1-0-0. Vermont falls to 5-4-1 on the year and 0-1-0 in America East. The Catamounts also suffer their first loss of the year at Virtue Field and snap a four game win streak.
Vermont returns to action on Tuesday, October 6 when the Catamounts travel down I-89 to face regional rival Dartmouth. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Hanover, New Hampshire.
NOTES: Brian Wright has recorded at least one point in six straight matches and has scored in five of the last six games ... He reached the 50-point plateau with his sixth goal of the season today ... He has 50 points in 47 career games on 21 goals and eight assists.
