The Golden Knights opened the scoring with 6:21 left in the first period. Olivia Howe won a puck battle in the corner and she centered a feed to Mariani who was alone in front of Vermont's Madison Litchfield. Mariani beat Litchfield with a quick high shot to pick up her first career collegiate goal.

Clarkson extended its lead in the second period with a power play strike at 9:37 of the middle frame. Renata Fast one-timed a pass from Savannah Harmon past a screened Litchfield for her first goal of the season. It was the Golden Knights third power play tally of the year.

The Golden Knights added two more even strength goals in the final six minutes of the second period to take a commanding four-goal lead. Mariani scored her second of the night at the 14:05 mark and McGill scored her third goal of the season with 1:59 left in the second.

McGill added another goal 8:11 into the third period to give the Golden Knights a five-goal lead. She was one-on-one with a Vermont defender and as she skated to the left she fired a shot labeled for the top right corner. With four goals on the season McGill leads the team in scoring.

Shea Tiley made 12 saves in net for Clarkson as she earned her fourth win of the season with her second shutout of the season. The sophomore now has 11 career shutouts.

"Clarkson is an excellent team and they simply didn't allow us to generate any quality offense tonight," said head coach Jim Plumer. "Our puck management still leaves a lot to be desired and when you are playing a quality team like Clarkson, they make you pay for your mistakes."

The Catamounts conclude their home-and-home series with the Golden Knights tomorrow afternoon with puck drop set for 3 p.m. at Cheel Arena. For live video and stats links fans can click here to go to the schedule page.

NOTES: Freshman defenseman Rachel Khalouf made her regular season debut for the Catamounts this evening … Alyssa Gorecki led all Catamounts with three shots … Gina Repaci and Kourtney Menches were tied for the team lead with two blocked shots … Vermont is now 1-16-3 all-time against the Golden Knights.
