After a back-and-forth first period the Catamounts opened the scoring 8:12 into the second period. Vermont's forecheck caused a turnover in the Huskies zone and Bella Webster gathered the puck at the top of the slot before feeding a pass on her backhand to Casey Leveillee. Leveillee snapped a low shot past Northeastern's Sarah Foss to record her first goal of the season.

Vermont looked to add to its lead on a power play opportunity minutes later. The Huskies forced a Vermont turnover at the Northeastern blue line and Kendall Coyne skated away alone on Vermont's Madison Litchfield. Litchfield robbed Coyne with a pad save and then stopped a follow up attempt from Paige Savage to keep the Catamounts lead intact.

Coyne took advantage of another breakaway opportunity early in the third period to tie the game. In alone on Litchfield this time she faked right and went left and was able to just beat her to the post and score her 23rd goal of the season. With the goal Coyne tied Boston College's Alex Carpenter as the all-time scoring leader in Hockey East play with 134 career points. Coyne also passed Northeastern's Hilary Witt as the Huskies all-time leading goal scorer with her shorthanded tally.

A minute later Vermont's Bridget Baker hit the post in transition as the Catamounts pushed to regain the lead. On the ensuing Huskies rush the other way McKenna Brand scored the game-winner with a wrist shot labeled for the top corner. Brand's third goal of the season came with 12:01 left in regulation.

Coyne snuffed out any chance of a Vermont comeback in the closing minutes drawing two penalties in the final 2:04 of the third period. The Huskies ran the clock out on their power plays to sweep the season series against Vermont.

Foss made 26 saves as she won her third game of the season for Northeastern. Litchfield made 30 saves for the Catamounts, her most in a single-game since the season opener against Bemidji State.

"I can't say anything else but I am extremely proud of how our team played all weekend," said head coach Jim Plumer. "We played right with Northeastern for both games and today was a fantastic 60-minute effort against the No. 7 team in the nation. We have made huge strides over the course of the last month."

The Catamounts return to action next weekend as they close out the semester with their annual game against Dartmouth. Vermont will make the trip down to Thompson Arena for a 4 p.m. faceoff on Saturday.

NOTES:
Vermont matched a season-high with 18 blocked shots this evening … Bridget Baker and Sarah Kelly led the way with four blocked shots apiece … Mackenzie MacNeil and Victoria Andreakos were tied for the team-lead with four shots on goal … Barring a playoff matchup this was Kendall Coyne's final game against Vermont, in her career she has 14 goals and nine assists in nine games against the Catamounts.
