PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore forward
Bridget Baker scored the game-winning goal with 1:03 left in the third period to lift Vermont to a 3-2 win over Providence Saturday afternoon in Hockey East action from Schneider Arena.

Vermont appeared to open the scoring on the power play with 9:18 left in the first period.
Dayna Colang deflected a
Taylor Willard point shot past Providence's Allie Morse but the officials immediately waived it off ruling Colang played the puck with a high-stick.

Amanda Pelkey opened the scoring for the Catamounts 14:21 into the second period. With a delayed penalty coming up on Providence Pelkey entered the Friars zone in transition. She beat a defender with a one-on-one move and roofed a backhand shot past Morse for her 12
th goal of the season. Colang and
Sarah Campbell were credited with assists on the play.

On the ensuing power play the Catamounts struck again just 19 seconds after Pelkey's tally.
Amanda Drobot stopped a Providence clearing attempt at the blue line and fired a point shot that found the back of the net to give Vermont a two-goal cushion. With the goal Drobot extended her point streak to seven games.

The Friars pulled within one with 11:23 left in the third period on their own power play opportunity. From the point Haley Frade fired a wrist shot high and wide of the Vermont net. Frade's shot ricocheted off the glass and right to Brooke Simpson who tucked in her seventh goal of the season before
Madison Litchfield could react.

With 4:23 left in the third period Providence equalized with a goal from Beth Hanrahan. On a two-on-two rush Hanrahan used a Vermont defender as a screen and fired a shot top corner to tie the game at two. Hanrahan's team-leading 15
th goal of the season was assisted by Frade and Lexi Romanchuk. Hanrahan has scored 12 goals in the last 18 games.

With 1:03 left in regulation the Catamounts retook the lead with Baker's second career game-winning goal. Baker redirected a
Katherine Pate point shot from the slot to give the Catamounts a huge win.
Brittany Zuback was credited with the second assist on Baker's sixth goal of the season.

Litchfield made 35 saves as she improved her record to 11-13-2 this season. Morse made 32 saves for Providence.

Jim Plumer. "We did a very good job of refocusing after giving up the lead and I'm proud of the effort."

With a win or tie tomorrow afternoon the Catamounts would finish seventh in Hockey East, setting up a quarterfinal matchup with No. 6 Boston U. If the Friars win tomorrow Vermont will head to No. 1 Boston College for the quarterfinals.
