LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. –Jessica Roach registered three tallies, including the 100
th of her career, and
Meg Hopkins held Siena to five goals to propel Vermont to an 8-5 victory over the Saints in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Siena Turf Field. With the victory, UVM improved to 2-1 on the year, while Siena fell to 0-3 overall.
Roach's first score of the game at the 24:34 mark of the first period was the 100
th goal of her UVM career. The Scituate, Massachusetts native became the sixth Catamount in program history to reach the 100-goal plateau, and is currently one score shy from moving into a tie for fifth-place on Vermont's all-time goals list.
Roach led all scorers in the contest and posted her third straight game with at least three tallies.
Danielle Seifert chipped in with a pair of scorers, and
Vanessa VanderZalm (1 g, 1 ast) and
Alex Bernier (2 ast) added two points each.
Siena received goals from five different players, including Eric Mossop and Lauren Smith, who registered two points each.
Hopkins posted her second win in goal this season for the Catamounts with a seven-save effort. The senior held the Saints to just five scores in the contest, and didn't allow a goal in the second half until the 12:11 mark. Goalies Danielle DeLisio and Ashley Holdridge combined to make 12 saves in the loss for Siena.
Rookie
Bailey Saneman tallied her first career goal just under five minutes into the contest to begin a run of three straight Catamount scores.
Marcie Marino and Roach followed with back-to-back goals under a minute apart to give Vermont a 3-1 lead. Bernier assisted on two of Vermont's opening three goals for the first assists of her career.
Siena came back to tie the game at 3-3 midway through the first behind goals from Sarah Croutier and Mossop, but Vermont answered with free-position scores from Roach and VanderZalm to stretch its lead to 5-3 heading into halftime.
Roach opened the second half scoring with her third tally of the game at the 24:23 mark, as Vermont extended its lead to three goals, 6-3. Kate Callahan answered for Siena, cutting the Saints' deficit back to two scores with her first goal of the game with 12 minutes remaining.
Vermont and Siena tallied a goal apiece in the ensuing four minutes of play, and the Catamounts held a 7-5 advantage until the final minute of play when Seifert added an insurance goal for UVM. The Catamounts went on to post the 8-5 victory for their second win of the 2015 campaign.

The Catamounts return home to face Marist on Saturday, February 28 at Virtue Field with action starting at 11 a.m.
