VERMONT WOMEN'S LACROSSE NOTEBOOKThe Catamounts play two of their final four games of the regular season this week, beginning with a non-conference matchup at UMass on Wednesday (April 8) at 3 p.m. Vermont then returns to Burlington for an America East tilt against ninth-ranked Stony Brook on Saturday (April 11) at 11 a.m. Links to live coverage of both games are available above.

FRIENDS OF JACLYN DAYTwo-year old Alison Pyle from South Burlington joined the UVM women's lacrosse team this year as part of the Friends of Jaclyn program, which pairs up children with local high school and college teams. Alison, who's been battling a pediatric brain tumor since she was 11-months old, has been an inspiration to the UVM players, coaches, staff and everyone around the program through her perseverance and upbeat attitude. Alison will be honored prior to Saturday's game along with her parents, Robin and Matt.
ABOUT VERMONTThe Catamounts sit at 9-4 overall this season with a 2-1 mark in America East play. Vermont's two wins in conference have come against UMBC (11-10) and most recently vs. Binghamton (18-7) last time out. UVM is averaging 11.62 goals per game and has tallied 15 or more goals in five of the last seven contests.

Vanessa VanderZalm have led the Catamount attack with a combined 76 goals and 94 points. Roach tops the squad in all three scoring categories, while VanderZalm ranks first on the team in draw controls, ground balls and caused turnovers. Senior goalie

NATIONAL RANKINGSVermont's top two scorers,

Vanessa VanderZalm, both rank amongst the leaders in the nation in various categories. Roach tops all scorers in the country with 49 goals, and also ranks fourth in points, with 59. VanderZalm places fourth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.55) and 15
th in ground balls per contest (2.91).
FERRIS RETURNS TO UMASSVermont first-year Assistant Coach
Katie Ferris will return to her alma mater UMass to face the Minutewomen for the first time since graduating in 2014. Ferris, who led UMass to four straight Atlantic 10 titles and NCAA appearances as a player, is the program's all-time leader in career points (330), goals (211) and assists (119). She also holds the school's records for most points (98) and assists (41) in a single season.
SCOUTING UMASSThe Minutewomen own a 10-1 record on the season and are a perfect 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play. Their only loss of the season came at the hands of Albany back in mid-march. UMass enters the matchup against Vermont on a three-game winning streak with victories over Duquesne (10-2), George Mason (17-7) and St. Bonaventure (18-8). The Minutewomen are averaging 11.09 goals per game, while allowing just 4.82 to opponents, which is good for second best in the nation. Erika Eipp and Hannah Murphy are the top scorers on the team with a combined 42 goals and 11 assists on the year. Rachel Vallarelli, who's made all 11 starts in goal, owns the best individual goals against average (4.28) in the nation.

SCOUTING #9 STONY BROOKStony Brook, ranked ninth in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll and seventh in the Inside Lacrosse Poll, enters the matchup with Vermont at 11-0 overall and 3-0 in America East. The Seawolves topped conference opponents Binghamton (15-2) and Albany (7-5) this past week to stay unbeaten. Stony Brook averages 11.73 goals per contest, and leads the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 4.73 goals per game to opponents. Courtney Murphy and Kylie Ohlmiller are the two Seawolves with 40-plus points on the year, combining for 57 goals and 25 assists. Goalie Kaitlyn Leahy has started every game in the cage and owns a 4.77 goals against average.

ALL-TIME VS. STONY BROOKVermont and Stony Brook have faced each other 13 times in series history with the Seawolves holding the slight advantage. The Catamounts earned a big 8-7 overtime victory over the Seawolves last season in Burlington in the regular season finale to clinch a spot in the America East playoffs.
